At the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, on Tuesday, April 9th, a workshop titled “Introduction to Digital Humanities: Workshop on Implementing ‘Distant Reading’ in Research Practice” was held. The
workshop was attended by participants from master’s and doctoral academic studies. In the theoretical part, Dr. Vasilije Milnović spoke about the paradigm of distant reading and the role of language technologies in the further development of digital humanities (pdf). Professor Dr. Cvetana Krstev discussed the SrpELTeC corpus, its annotation, and usage (pdf). Professor Dr. Ranka Stanković presented some of the research results of the Society for Language Resources and Technologies JеRТеh
and the TESLA project (Text Embeddings – Serbian Language Applications, #7276),
funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia (pdf). Platforms such as Biblisha, Ners, Aurora,
Obrada, Termi, Palma, and Texase, as well as the journal Infoteka, were introduced. In the practical part of the workshop, participants were guided through queries over the corpora by Professor Dr. Cvetana Krstev.
The instructors announced future workshops, including those within the South Slavic Languages in Digital Environment Conference JUDIG.
